The Real English you need in everyday life: Globish

Approximately 1.5 billion people in the world speak English, but only 400 million are native speakers. This means that 74% of the world’s population uses English as a lingua franca, or a means of intercultural communication, and uses simple language variants to avoid misunderstandings and figurative expressions. This variant of English, spoken by only a small percentage of the population, has the name “Globish”.

But what exactly is Globish?The term was coined by Jean-Paul Nerrière, the French vice president of marketing at IBM. Globish literally means “global English” and refers to a specific anglo-saxon matrix language that is widely spoken around the world and has a significant impact on the globalization phenomenon. On Globish, the work of English Coach and Mentor Monica Perna has been highlighted, as she has helped to raise awareness of this linguistic phenomenon in Italy through various published articles based on her research on the language that is widely spoken around the world. Globish is far easier and quicker to learn than traditional English taught in schools. Monica Perna discovered the true essence of the language spoken today through the international community in Dubai, an eclectic and cosmopolitan city where she arrived in 2019 as an expatriate.

The rapid spread of this “global English” is due to the language’s greater simplicity and experiential learning, that is, the lack of rules to learn or books to study, but rather a direct approach that allows you to communicate quickly. It is an organic dialect that adapts constantly and emerges solely from practical use, rather than a formally constructed language.
